Multicultural Management
How to use cutural differences to our advantage
We all are parts of several cultures, some of which define us more and some of which influence us less. Katja Rieger, Director Operations Swiss Re, will discuss at the 120minutenBUSINESSWOMEN shortworkshop the phenomena "multiculture". She wants us to become aware how this topic affects us in our thinking and in our interactions. And she wants to talk about how we can potentially improve our multicultural interactions by giving it a bit of thought. What is culture and how does it affect how we work?
- Definition and dimensions of culture
- Focus on geographic and corporate dimension
- Workout session on a culturally diverse team set-up
- Presentation and discussion of findings
The goal of this 120minutenBUSINESSWOMEN event is to raise awareness as to how culture affects us and give food for thought how we can use it. Additionaly we should have some fun, since the topic is also entertaining – considering the lovely cliches which surround the idea of culture. Take away's:
- awareness of some cultural dimensions and their effects
- awareness of culture in daily life
- ideas on how to set up and mix teams
- ideas of how to respond proactively and positively to cultural diversity
One caveat needs to be raised: there is no definition of a certain culture – the boundaries are fluent and the representatives of a cultural group are as diverse within the culture as in between cultures. Therefore our discussions may be directionally correct, but should never be seen as absolute.
